Top 10 Offensive and Defensive Fantasy Players from Week 1

Fantasy sports offers an entirely new perspective and element to following the season.  Fantasy football is a huge industry with millions of players per year.  Myself and friend/colleague Sniper here at The Other Side Sports created a fantasy football league over a decade ago which we’ve perfected throughout the years.

The goal of the league was simple, to make the most realistic fantasy football experience.  The idea was to assign points and negative points for every possible action within the game, the higher the impact the higher the points.  Therefore, if a player significantly impacts their teams ability to win their game, the equivalent in fantasy value should reflect that.  As well as the reverse of that, so if a QB throws a pick six, that will equate for negative 7 points, which is accurate to real life.

We also play defensive players because we were tired of defenses being an afterthought in fantasy so we decided that, just like in real life, if your offense has an off day then your defense could step up and win the game for you.  So below I’ll show our top 10 offensive and defensive players based off our value scale.  Hopefully, you had some of these players on your team.

TOP 10 OFFENSIVE PLAYERS

  1. Ryan Fitzpatrick – 51.30 pts – He played flawlessly going 21/28 for 427 yards, 4 TD, 0 Int, 36 rush yards and 1 TD.
  2. Tyreek Hill – 45.70 – Hill exploded for 3 TD, 2 through the air on 7 catches for 169 yards and 1 return TD with 95 return yards
  3. Alvin Kamara – 40.80 – 29 rush yards, 2 TD, 9 catches for 112 yards and 1 TD (3 Total TDs).
  4. Drew Brees – 38.50 – 37/45 for 439 yards 3 TD, 0 Int.
  5. Patrick Mahomes – 35.64 – 15/27 for 256 yards, 4 TD, 0 Int, & 21 Rush Yards
  6. Michael Thomas – 34.40 – 16 catches for 180 yards & 1 TD.
  7. Philip Rivers – 33.94 – 34/51 for 424 yards, 3 TD, 1 Int
  8. James Conner – 33.80 – 135 rush yards for 2 TD and 5 catches for 57 yards.
  9. DeSean Jackson – 31.78 – 5 catches for 146 yards and 2 TD.
  10. Aaron Rodgers – 29.34 – 20/30 for 286 yards and 3 TD, 0 Int, with 15 rush yards.

  3. T.J. Watt – 26.50 – 8 solo, 3 ast, 4 TFL, 4 Sacks, 1 blocked kick
  4. Clayton Fejedelem – 25.65 – 9 solo, 1 ast, 1 FF, 1 FR, 83 ret yds, 1 TD
  5. Khalil Mack – 24.85 – 2 solo, 1 ast, 1 sack, 1 PD, 1 Int, 1 FF, 1 FR, 27 ret yds, 1 TD
  6. Reshad Jones – 23.50 – 4 solo, 3 ast, 1 TFL, 2 PD, 2 Int, 32 ret yds, 1 TD
  7. Myles Jack – 22.60 – 7 solo, 3 ast, 1 PD, 1 Int, 32 ret yds, 1 TD
  8. Myles Garrett – 22.00 – 5 solo, 1 ast, 1 TFL, 2 Sacks, 1 PD, 2 FF
  9. Mike Hughes – 21.90 – 3 solo, 3 PD, 1 INT, 28 ret yards, 1 TD
  10. Harrison Smith – 21.20 – 7 solo, 1 ast, 2 TFL, 1 Sack, 1 PD, 1 Int, 1 FR, 14 ret yds

As you can see we give value where value is present.  Interceptions do not happen as often as TDs so we give them proper value, same goes for sacks and tackles for loss.  We try to make it as closely valued to real life as possible while still having a fun experience playing fantasy.  Luckily for me, I have Myles Jack, Alvin Kamara, and Patrick Mahomes helping me to a 1-0 start in the league.  I’ll be updating these list every week to follow along and have a better understanding who the offensive and defensive MVP’s will be later in the season.

Good Luck in Week 2.
