Antonio Brown tweeting about being traded, skipping practice. LeVeon Bell still holding out for more guaranteed money. Ben Roethlisberger on the backside of his career. The Pittsburgh Steelers could be in one hell of a mess here. Granted we are only two games through the regular season, but they did tie with the Cleveland Browns, a much improved Browns team from past seasons, but still, the Browns. The next week they lost against the offensive powerhouse Kansas City Chiefs. Tampa Bay is up next and has a legitimate shot at beating the once intimidating Steelers. Coach Mike Tomlin needs to get his team under control before he completely loses them.
The above video shows the frustration Antonio Brown had during Sundays match up against the Chiefs, it also reviews the tweet about being traded.
Luckily for the Steelers, they have really solid “second options” for LeVeon Bell and Antonio Brown. JuJu Smith-Schuster and James Conner have been bright lights for the Steelers offense this season. JuJu, through two games has hauled in 18 receptions for 240 yards and 1 TD, compare that two Brown’s 18 receptions for 163 yards and 1 TD. Now that’s only a 77 yard difference. When you have the #1 WR in football according to most scouts and analyst, it’s strange to see another option with the same number of receptions and touchdowns, and more receiving yards. Brown is a competitor and likes to get the ball thrown his way. When he isn’t happy, he lets people know.
James Conner is such a feel good story. An athlete who had to battle cancer, beat it and now is a starting running back in the NFL. Although, if LeVeon Bell had worked out a contract with the Steelers, he would undoubtedly still be the starter in Pittsburgh, but he hasn’t. James Conner takes the stage. He has done quite well on that stage, well enough, Pittsburgh might not need to worry about paying LeVeon Bell. Week 1 Conner had 31 carries for 135 and 2 TDs. He only had 8 carries in week 2 for 17 yards and 1 TD, but he did catch 5 of his 5 targets for 48 yards. Pittsburgh can officially look at him as a starter and a damn good one at that. LeVeon is a star and one of the best in the league, but with a backup like James Conner, no need to worry Steelers fans.
Like I said, with Antonio Brown talking about being traded, punching reporters and yelling on the sidelines, JuJu might just be able to step in and fill the big shoes of Antonio Brown if need be. With LeVeon holding out, riding jet skis around while his “teammates” play football, James Conner has put the team on his back and helped them stay contenders. James Conner is NOT LeVeon Bell and JuJu Smith-Schuster is NOT Antonio Brown, but they are damn good replacements if anything were to happen, or continue happening.
